Two weeks ago I flew out to Malaga to shoot alongside Josie Hooper. I’ve never been to Malaga before so wasn’t entirely sure what to expect, but after a stressful few weeks at work with GCSE and A Level Exams, my IVF Pregnancy (which leaves you in a constant state of worry) and trying to sell 3 houses for a relocation up north, I needed a weekend away, to myself, doing what I love, with a good book. This weekend ticked all of those boxes.
Destination weddings are hard, the time, energy, travelling it takes to shoot one can often outweigh the gains but I see every one I’m lucky enough to be asked to do as an opportunity. Back at the start of 2018 I promised myself I would say yes to every opportunity that came my way, and I can honestly say, my life has done a 360 degree turn. I’ve done two this year, with one more to come and I love them. I get to see the world, shoot, meet awesome people and have some time for me too. Something that doesn’t happen at home.
So back to the wedding, all I knew upon turning up to Malaga is this couple were hoottt! they were getting married in the most amazing venue - Castilla de Santa Catalina and old fortress high on the hill over looking Malaga. DREAM VENUE. Inside was just as gorgeous, vintage rustic Spanish features, high ceilings and gorgeous mediterrean colours, perfect for a destination wedding and a photographer who adores details.
David and Kimberley were fab! their four kids just as gorgeous and lovely. Guests superb and the details and styling - holy cow, just perfection. Their ceremony was outside overlooking the bay, pampas grass, and boho beautifulness everywhere. Only when the speeches I realised where exactly I knew Davids face and rather embarrinsgly its because he used to play for my football team, Blackburn Rovers. Yes, it was David Bentley. my dad text and said. “ Is there anybody else famous there” to which I replied, “Dad, seriously, I wouldn’t know if they punched me in the face, I’m literally the worst celeb spotter ever!”
The day was stunning, they had Spanish dancers, awesome music, incredible weather, it was just a dream come true. It gave me time to practise shooting in bright sunshine and soaring heat which was a tight challenge at 17 weeks pregnant but I got through it with my love island bottle and two hefty pizzas.
